SATURDAY 2nd AUGUST : BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND
Martin Shanahan of Kinsale’s Fishy Fishy restaurant will fire the starter’s pistol for the Kinsale RNLI Raft Race on Bank Holiday Saturday, 2nd August.  The raft race makes a welcome return to the Bank Holiday festivities that include the Kinsale Regatta.  Up to 20 rafts are expected to take part in the race that starts at the Bulman bar in Summercove at 3.30pm and ends at the White Lady Hotel. The charity fun race is organised by volunteer crew members of the RNLI, the charity that saves lives at sea. Teams of between 4 and 6 people are invited to decorate their rafts and wear fancy dress. A minimum entry fee of €20 is required for each crew member. The first team to plant their mast in the car park of the White Lady Hotel after the race will win the coveted trophy, with additional prizes for Best Raft Design and Best Fancy Dress.  DJ Anthony Collins, fresh from his triumph at Glastonbury, will host the prize giving followed by a barbeque and music at the White Lady. Martin Shanahan said: ‘The doom and gloom is over and Kinsale is back on top. The August Bank Holiday will be a great weekend with the Kinsale RNLI Raft Race like the Grand National on water! Members of Kinsale Good Food Circle will have pop-up stands around town selling street food, adding to the festival atmosphere. It’s a great event for a great cause so get your team raft registered now.’

All rafts must be registered and undergo safety checks prior to the race.  For rules & regulations and to register, please email [email protected] or contact via Facebook.
