Kinsale Paints the Town Pink
Posted by Kinsale Newsletter on Monday 9 January 2017

Ireland's Gourmet capital turned pink on Friday last for the launch of the 6th Annual Pink Ribbon Walk in the Blue Haven Hotel in Kinsale. The Pink Ribbon Walk is a national voluntary movement with a big ambition – a world without breast cancer.

The sponsored 10k run/walk for Action Breast Cancer, is one of the town’s best supported events and takes place on 5th March 2017 at 12 noon. Committee members and members of the local community were out in force on the traditional day of Nollaig na mBan, to lend their support for this important cause that effects women right across Ireland.

“Women’s Little Christmas, is a day that we celebrate our female friends and family members. This is why the launch day for the walk is so relevant. We now need to fight to keep our female friends and family members with us for a long time to come! Walks like this can go a long way in ensuring that the support is there for those who face this battle” said Mary Kirby O'Donovan, Committee Chairperson.

Pink Ribbon Ambassador and singer, Sharon Crosbie will again lend her support and lead the walk this year. Last years walked raised a whopping €43,000. Every single euro raised will make a difference to people with cancer and their families throughout Ireland in the fight against cancer.

“This year over 30,000 people in Ireland will develop cancer and over 8,000 will die of the disease” added Eileen Kearney, Community Fundraising Manager for Irish Cancer Society.
