Launch of Rugby Development Programme at KCS

Kinsale Community School and Kinsale Rugby Club are delighted to announce the launch of Kinsale Community School Rugby Development Programme. This partnership sees the introduction of rugby into Kinsale Community School on a phased basis over the next 3 years. This collaboration is being led by Wayne Falvey, Kinsale RFC, and Eddie Farren, Kinsale Community School. Munster Rugby is supporting this collaboration through the involvement of Ultan O’Callaghan and the team at Munster Rugby. This exciting new programme will commence with 1st year boys, Under 15 Boys and Under 16 boys in Year 1. Year 2 will see the extension of the programme into Under 15s, 17s boys & U18s girls while Year 3 will incorporate U19s boys, and 1st year girls, bringing the total number of squads to 7. New competitions will be added throughout the programme.

The rugby academy programme will take a holistic approach by addressing player capabilities across a number of various areas including, diet, nutrition, lifestyle, technical, mental, athletic development and tactical astuteness.

The principal Mr Fergal McCarthy has said he is ‘delighted and grateful that this collaborative process with Kinsale Rugby Club and Munster Rugby will provide the students at Kinsale Community School with the opportunity to participate and excel in another area of sport. The sports resources available at Kinsale Community School are at a university standard and in that regard it is magnificent that our students will get the opportunity to widen their skillset and develop their sporting prowess while representing Kinsale Community School on the rugby field.’
