Thea's Great Christmas Deeds
Posted by Kinsale Newsletter on Monday 9 December 2019

This magical story epitomises the spirit of Christmas.

Ten year old Thea Tobin from Kinsale has been growing her beautiful red hair for years and just last week, after hearing of the Rapunzel Foundation, she decided she would cut and donate her hair to the non-profit organisation which creates hair pieces out of natural hair for children who are undergoing chemotherapy. Thea took the plunge on Saturday when her hair had reached the required length, her cousin Rachel at Bel Ami Hair did the honours and four gorgeous plaits are now on their way to create hair pieces for little girls fighting cancer.

But that is not the end of the story! On Saturday evening, Thea’s mom, Cathy O’Brien, posted photos of Thea’s wonderful deed on her Facebook page. Within minutes people were asking if they could make a donation to acknowledge Thea’s act of kindness. Thea decided that Marymount would be the beneficiary of any donations as that is where her beloved nanny, Eleanor O’Brien, well known and loved in Kinsale, was cared for in final weeks before she sadly passed away on December 31st 2017. An initial target of €250 was surpassed in minutes and within 24 hours Thea has raised over €1500 for a charity which has touched the lives of most people in Kinsale and surrounding areas. Well done Thea on your wonderful gesture, you are an amazing little girl! Nanny Eleanor would be so proud of you.
