Posted by Kinsale Newsletter on Monday 24 February 2014

Kinsale & District Community Awards are holding their inaugural event on April 11th 2014, in Actons Hotel at 7.30pm. This event is to acknowledge the efforts of person and/or groups in the local community that make it a better place.  It is aimed at the local unsung heroes, who through their voluntary actions enhance the area.
Nominations will be accepted from the following areas:  Kinsale, Ballinspittle, Ballinadee, Ballinhassig, Belgooly, Dunderrow & Riverstick no later than 15th March, 2014.  Entries to be handed or posted into Red Cross Centre, Church Square, Kinsale, Co. Cork, marked for the attention of James O'Mahony.
The Kinsale & District Community Awards is the brainchild of James O'Mahony and Tomás O'Brien who have felt for some time that there was a need for acknowledgement of the tireless efforts of local persons and/or groups who give so freely of their time and energy for the betterment of all and so a year and a half ago they began pitching their idea and sourcing sponsorship.  The idea was seized enthusiastically by all involved namely, Tomás O'Brien, James O'Mahony, Claire Nash, Catherine Murphy, Charles Henderson, Alice De La Cour, Joan FitzGerald and the late Denis Healy.  Sponsorship was then successfully secured from both Kinsale & District Credit Union and Lilly, for which the committee are very grateful.
Closing application date is 15th March, 2014 and the applications will be then assessed by a panel of external independent judges.  The categories for nominations are Individual, Group, Special Achievement and Hall of Fame. Applications are available at local businesses and other outlets.
This promises to be a very exciting night and tickets will be on sale at the Boathouse Gallery, Main Street, Kinsale, Co. Cork, at €10 each.  This event will be bi-annual so get nominating for 2014 now.
