Two Kinsale students receive TOYP awards

JCI Cork hosts TOYP Awards

On Thursday March 14th, Junior Chamber International (JCI) recognised Ten Outstanding Young Persons (TOYP) at the annual JCI Cork TOYP Awards. A number of these winners will go on to represent JCI Cork at the JCI Ireland TOYP awards being held on May 18th 2019 in the Royal Marine Hotel, Dun Laoghaire. Special guests included Cllr. Fergal Dennehy (Deputy Lord Mayor), John O’Doherty (Head of AIB Cork), Nicole Ryan (JCI Cork TOYP winner 2018 and founder of Alex’s Adventures) and Keira Keogh (JCI Ireland National President 2019).

The recipients of these ten prestigious awards were former Irish Olympian and Dare to Believe campaigner Claire Lambe, Dr Fiona Edwards Murphy (CEO and founder of ApisProtect), student scientist Jennifer McCarthy, international online safety campaigner Lorcan Tuohy, Jose Soto Palafox for cultural advancement of Cork, Alastair Brook for his humanitarian work, student journalist Cailean Coffey, Emily Duffy social entrepreneur and inventor of the Duffily bag, Kaushik Shanmugam for his medical entrepreneurship and international humanitarian Sophie Healy-Thow. Both Jennifer and Sophie have had outstanding success at BTYSTE Awards. Jennifer is a Leaving Cert student at Kinsale Community School while Sophie is a past pupil of the school.
Each winner demonstrated their inspirational commitment to creating positive change in their area of expertise and were incredibly deserving winners. Special thanks to AIB for being the sponsors of the event as well as being national sponsors for the JCI Ireland TOYP awards to be held on 18 May 2019.

Speaking at the award ceremony, JCI Cork President Eileen O’Donovan commended all the nominees for their wonderful achievements, stating “All nominees are making such a difference to the local community – we are delighted to honour them tonight”.

The awards ceremony was hosted by local sponsors AIB on South Mall. MC for the evening was Fatou Barry, of JCI Cork.
