Beautiful Remembrance Tree gifted to Kinsale
Posted by Kinsale Newsletter on Wednesday 16 December 2020

So many groups, businesses and individuals have stepped up during this incredibly challenging year to help improve the lives of the those in the community in many different and often innovating ways.
One of the most recent initiatives introduced to bring some joy and hope to the residents of the area is the donation of a Remembrance Tree at the Short Quay, Kinsale.

Eamon and Úna Jackson have gifted a beautiful tree to the town so that those who have lost loved ones during this traumatic year can go visit and remember those who won’t be with us this Christmas. People are invited to bring their own ribbons with their loved ones names written with permanent marker and leave them in the Post Box at the tree, to be hung on the tree by Una and Eamon.
Donations are welcome for the ribbon service with all proceeds going to Kinsale Lions Club, donations of any amount from €1 to infinity can be made through the following link…

This lovely idea came from Una and Eamon who both wanted to think of a way to cheer the townspeople up after a very tough year and also to remember their loved ones. Sadly Una lost both her mom and younger brother this year, so she, like many other families, has really felt the impact of the pandemic on our traditional grieving processes. Una would also like the tree to be somewhere Kinsale people can go to and reflect, and remember not only those who have passed away but those we can't be with over Christmas because of this awful virus. Una and Eamon’s daughter Emma lives in Australia with her little babies whom they miss desperately and cannot visit.

Like many other Kinsale people at Christmas time, Una has always made it her business to go Cork city to put ribbons on the Rotary Club Tree of Remembrance on Patrick Street, so the idea came to her why not have our own Tree of Remembrance here in Kinsale? As a Past President of Kinsale Lions Club, Eamon thought it would be a lovely combination of having the tree while raising much needed funds for the Lions Club.

This is such a lovely and thoughtful idea by the Jacksons and will no doubt bring hope and cheer to so many in the town over the coming weeks.
Thank you Eamon and Úna for such a kind and wonderful gesture.
