In celebration of The Gathering, Kinsale Arts Festival announces a weekend of free events for 12 & 13 October 2013.

Philip King, Darina Allen, Patrick Guinness, Colm Mac Con Iomaire, Jim Carrol, Una Mullally, Caroline Hennessy, Ciaran Fitzgerald, Gerry Godley, Damien Mulley plus more TBA

Plus Kinsale Art Galleries open their doors to host free tea parties all weekend and more to be confirmed.

Celebrating all things food, home and hospitality, Kinsale Arts Festival is delighted to announce the return of Banter with Jim Carroll for two days of conversations and talking shop around the theme Come Home For Your Tea. Banter will feature special guests from the world of Irish arts and culture debating hot topics such as ‘What’s On Your Plate?’ and ‘#Next, What Comes after Social Media?' Running alongside Kinsale’s 37th Gourmet Festival, it’s a weekend not to be missed for visitors and locals alike.

From celebrity cheffing and annual cookbooks to restaurant hype and bluster, the simple act of eating well has become embued with all manner of connotations and associations. But in a time when many families struggle to feed themselves and food poverty is a real issue, is it time for a back to basics movement?

#Next- What Comes After Social Media?

Facebook and Twitter have been in the dock all year long and as we've seen with every technological innovation from MySpace to Bebo, nothing lasts forever. What comes after social media? What will replace our constant tweeting and updates? What will Web 4.0 look like?

A discussion on the relationship between this little island and the big island to the right of us. A group of Englishmen living in Ireland and Irishmen talk about the how and the why of us and them.

Sunday 13 October
Banter moves to Kinsale’s iconic heritage site, Charles Fort. Enjoy afternoon tea, stimulating discussions and musical interludes in one of Ireland’s most spectacular 17th century settings, with free entry between 12pm and 4pm.

A conversation with the Dingle-based Corkman about the art and the business of putting music on screen from the most westerly and wildest point in Europe.

If we as a nation want to put our best face out and are promoting The Gathering as a come-home-to-Ireland initiative, how do we make sure our hospitality industry also comes up to the mark? 

Music and Talk with Colm Mac Con Iomaire

A member of The Frames since day one and the violinist with The Swell Season touring band, Colm will be talking about his life in music. He will also be playing some tunes for us. Expect to hear some magic from his debut solo album “The Hare’s Corner”.

All Weekend
10-6pm

Artists Giles Norman, Hilary Hale and Louise McKeon invite you for tea. This is a unique opportunity to meet with leading Irish contemporary artists in their galleries and find out more about their work. Special Gathering offers will apply to artwork sold during the weekend.

Kinsale Arts Festival is an annual celebration of international and local arts and culture, taking place in the unique setting of a seaside town in Co. Cork.
