Dr Chris Luke to speak in Kinsale
Posted by Kinsale Newsletter on Friday 1 February 2019

In Kinsale we are very lucky to have Kinsale Youth Support Service, (KYSS) an organisation which aims to help and support young people by providing information and promoting understanding of the challenges facing young people within our community.
Over the past number of years KYSS has organised guest speakers to come and give mental health awareness talks to the general community. Speakers have included John Lonergan, former governor of Mountjoy and Cork Camogie star Ashling Thompson, among others.
Next Thursday, February 7th, Dr. Chris Luke, well known Consultant in Emergency Medicine, will give a talk ‘A Little Nightclub Medicine - Caring for “Party Animals” in the 21st Century’. Dr. Luke has a passionate interest in 'nightclub medicine' which aims to prevent 'party animals' from needing hospital emergency care. It includes training staff at pubs and clubs in Cork in first aid to care for people who are drunk or who are suffering the effects of drug-taking.
Actons Hotel is the venue for the event which starts at 8pm. All are welcome, (over 17s accompanied by a parent/guardian).
Local man Ger Rice is the dedicated Health Support Worker for the area. If you are concerned about the well-being of any young person, contact Ger on 085 872 5789 for free and confidential advice and support.
