Festive Kinsale for Christmas!
Posted by Kinsale Newsletter on Wednesday 4 December 2019

Festive Kinsale is the place to be this Christmas! Twinkling lights and magical window displays are transforming our beautiful town into a winter wonderland.

Festivities commenced last Sunday, December 1st, with the official ceremony to turn on the Christmas lights by a very special guest all the way from the North Pole! Santa Claus arrived to the Town Park in style courtesy of Kinsale Fire Brigade; once he had performed his very important job he chatted with many excited smallies and posed for photos galore!

This weekend sees the town really coming to life for the festive season. Many shopping events, Christmas treats and fundraisers are planned in various outlets throughout Kinsale.

Friday morning sees the ever popular Altrusa Annual Christmas Fayre in the Temperance Hall (get in early to get Grandma’s renowned Christmas Pudding!). Granny’s Bottom Drawer is hosting their Christmas event at 6pm while the Wine Buff @ Marnie & Lily invites you to their Wine Launch at 7.30pm. The Boathouse Gallery open their Christmas Exhibition at 6.30pm.

Super Saturday follows where many shops are offering special discounts on the day, stroll around town and get your Christmas gifts sorted in comfort! Bandon Co-Op are offering 10% off all day to celebrate the arrival of Santa between 12pm and 3pm where there will be treats, gifts and face painting. Giles Norman Gallery is hosting their Christmas shopping event with 10% off and complimentary mulled wine and mince pies! From Giles Norman you can pay a visit to the Enibas Wish Event from 5pm to 7pm.

Start your Sunday off with a refreshing 5K Santa Dash, a fundraiser organised by Kinsale Tri Club for the past few years and always great fun for all the family. This year the beneficiaries are The Road to Kinsale, a community organisation which aims to support a Syrian refugee family settle in Kinsale.

The Blue Haven is place to be on Sunday for the Green Puppet Show at 12.30pm, be sure to book in advance! Their wonderful Christmas Market & Santa’s Grotto takes place on Sunday afternoon, 2pm to 5pm, it promises to be a magical experience. Giles Norman Gallery continue their 10% off on Sunday and a new initiative this year is the Kinsale Boutique and Food Trail from 2pm to 5pm. Finish your evening off at the Church of St. John the Baptist for the annual ‘O Holy Night’ Concert’, tickets are available from Bolands and the Boathouse Gallery.

The fun continues next week at Kinsale Community School where the Transition Year students put on their annual show. This year Hi School Musical is the chosen production, if previous years are to go by it will be a cracker! Tickets are on sale at Footloose Kinsale and the school office.

Cru and The Black Pig are reopening this week after a little November break while The Supper Club has a very novel offering for early diners at the moment!

While it is lovely to enjoy all the magical surroundings around us here in Kinsale, it is important to remember those for whom Christmas may not be an easy time. With this in mind Kinsale Lions Club are organising their annual Food Appeal this weekend, Friday 6th and Saturday 7th December at supermarkets in Kinsale. Please support them in whatever way you can.
