Golfers Raise Charity Funds
Posted by Kinsale Newsletter on Monday 7 July 2014

The Kinsale Lions Golf Classic 2014 was held recently at Kinsale Golf Club, Farrangalway.  A mostly dry day saw keen competition between the forty plus teams taking part. Over fourteen thousand will have been raised when when all the sponsorship has been delivered – this is the Club’s main fund raising event for the year, and will enable donations to be made to worthy local causes when the winter winds are blowing.
Winners of the Lions Golf Perpetual Trophy was the team of Kinsale Golf Club on 94 points. Ably led by Club Captain Rev. Leslie H. Bryan, the team included Club Vice Captain Michael Landers, John Guirey and Des Fitzgerald. Runner-up was the team of M.S.L. on 90 points, with Richard Laws’ team coming third on 89 points. Team prizes continued with teams recording scores down to 81 points, though some of those were excluded on count back.
The success of this annual event depends heavily on the main sponsor Kinsale Golf Club, while Club Professional Ger Broderick, SuperValu Kinsale, Trident Hotel and caterer Three Greens Catering lent great support. Over one hundred local businesses helped in various ways, including tee sponsorship and services to the event.
