Posted by Kinsale Newsletter on Tuesday 19 September 2017

Saturday October 21st and Sunday October 22nd 2017 are the dates for the annual Kinsale Lions Walking Festival which this year will take in spectacular historic and coastal walks in and around beautiful Kinsale.
Saturday 21st October 2017: Battlefield Loop - 15 Kilometres
The Battlefield Walk takes in the most important locations associated with the Battle of Kinsale.
The Walk begins at the Kinsale Community School and wanders through some of the narrow streets of Kinsale before moving out into the countryside near the site of the English Camp. The walk passes through Brownsmills and then moves north and west through country lanes to intersect the route of the Irish advance.
The walk swings south following the advance to give a fine view of the Irish objective at Liscahane Mor, descending to Millwater, the site of the culmination of the battle before returning to the start.

Sunday 22nd October 2017: Haven to Harbour Loop - 15 Kilometres
The Haven to Harbour Loop begins at the Kinsale Rugby Club and heads southeast along the road before entering the grounds of the MacDonald Hotel and heading Northeast to meet the Western Shore of Oysterhaven Bay.
There follows a delightful woodland walk before emerging into the open at Ferry Point where there are wonderful views into Oysterhaven. The walk swings Southwest along the coast crossing Ballymacus Creek, the old Rifle Range and on to Preghane Point.
The views along this section are spectacular with a panorama from the approaches to Cork Harbour in the east to the Old Head of Kinsale in the west. At Preghane Point the walk swings North along the Eastern shore of Kinsale Harbour passing Lower and Middle Coves before arriving at the magnificent Charles Fort.
The walk then swings Northeast along the road to return to the Rugby Club.
