Kinsale Lions Club to host Blue Light Parade on New Year's Eve
Posted by Kinsale Newsletter on Wednesday 9 December 2020

Kinsale Lions Club is delighted to bring a Blue & Amber Into Light event to Kinsale on New Year’s Eve, 2020. The aim of this special event is to bring some hope, brightness and strength of community spirit to the start of a new and hopefully better year ahead. It will emphasise the importance of the connection between the services and the community of Kinsale. This Blue and Amber Light event will also show solidarity for the trojan work being done by the frontline emergency personnel and will support mental health.

From 7am on New Year’s Eve, Garda Cars, Motor Cycles, Ambulances, Commercial Vehicles & other members of the Services will gather in preparation for the event at the Fire Station, Kinsale. Any people with boats in the harbour are asked to get involved by lighting them up. The decision to host a Blue Light Parade on New Year’s Eve is due to the very positive feedback received following the Darkness into Blue Light event in May. With Christmas being somewhat different this year, the Parade promises to be spectacular and unique in that it will be the last day of the year and the start of a better year for 2021 with hope on the horizon, as well as supporting local charities and the community in a safe way.

There will be full health and safety protocol in place and the Lions Club is asking people to remain in their homes, put on a lantern, torch or candle on the evening as the vehicles pass your house to show solidarity or else stay in your car. Social distancing is of paramount importance. Notifications and routes will be done digitally if you download the Doing Business in Kinsale App which is free and will contain the information on the event, etc., all via your smartphone. All proceeds go to charity.
