Cork South West Fine Gael TD and Minister of State at the Department of Health, Jim Daly, has today confirmed that Summercove National School will be placed on the Government’s next capital plan for a new school.
Last week, Minister Daly hosted a meeting between Summercove School Management and Minister McHugh in Dublin where it was confirmed that the school will be included on the Department of Education School building Programme for 2021.
Speaking after the meeting, Minister Daly said, “I can confirm that Summercove National School is the first school across the entire country to be confirmed by officials to be included in the next Government capital plan.
The teachers, management and board of management of the school have been on a long arduous journey to get the school they need, and deserve certainty in order to continue with the excellent work they are doing.”
A green field site for the school has been identified and officials within the Department of Education are now in a position to work with the school in the coming months to progress the design and planning stages of the new school.
Concluding, Minister Daly said, “I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have been working so hard over the last number of years to ensure that Summercove got a new school to meet the demands of its growing population.”
