Martin’s Mad About the RNLI!

Celebrity chef Martin Shanahan is promising a ‘party on the pier’ in Kinsale this Bank Holiday Saturday 1st August for the Kinsale RNLI Raft Race. Up to 30 rafts will take part in the race, starting at the Bulman Bar in Summercove at 5pm and finishing at the main slip by Kinsale pier between 5.30pm and 6pm. 

Martin says:  ‘Everyone in Kinsale appreciates the work of the RNLI, from swimmers and sailors to the deep-sea fishing community. The Kinsale RNLI raft race is a great way to support the charity that saves lives at sea so we invite everyone to join us from 5pm on Bank Holiday Saturday for a party on the pier with race commentary, great craic and live music by DJ Mark. As a thank you to the RNLI, local fishermen will give everyone a ‘Taste of the Sea’ with free fish & chips, crab claws, mussels, oysters and smoked fish and they only ask in return that people donate generously to the RNLI.’ 

Roni Kermode of www.wellnessclub.ie, independent distributor of Herbalife Nutrition products, is this year's race sponsor and will be providing all race participants with a nutritious goody bag while her team members will be on hand offering a free ‘wellness check’.  Levente and Attila Magyar of Mamukko, Ireland’s leading designer and maker of up-cycled sailcloth bags, have kindly donated crew bags for the winning raft.  Kinsale Good Food Circle has donated prizes worth €300 and 1601 Off Licence has also given generous prize. Victoria Fine Diamonds of Cork are offering a €300 voucher for the winner of the race sweepstake.  Prizes will be awarded to the fastest raft, best fancy dress and to the crew that raises the greatest amount of sponsorship for the RNLI.  Registration takes place in The Dock pub – winner of the 2014 race - on Friday 31st August between 6 and 8pm with a free glass of Guinness for all rafters who collect their race number, course map and give in their sponsorship money.  Otherwise, it can be done from 2pm on Saturday outside the Bulman Bar.

Raft Race T-shirts, sponsored by www.wellnessclub.ie, will be on sale for just €10 – with every € taken going to the RNLI.
