New full-time QQI Level 5 Day Course in Laboratory Techniques

Kinsale Community School has carved out a very enviable reputation as a centre of excellence in respect of Science. This year there were more students qualified for the BT Young Scientist Exhibition from Kinsale Community School than from any other school in Ireland.

In September 2017 Kinsale Community School ‘The Science School’ is introducing a new Post Leaving Certificate course in Laboratory Techniques. This course is a level 5 approved QQI full-time day course. Laboratory Techniques is a carefully designed programme which will equip the graduate with the skills set necessary to find good sustainable employment within the pharmaceutical and food industries. It will also assist the graduate in obtaining a place in a variety of third level settings including UCC and CIT, amongst others. It encompasses a wide range of modules suited to careers in the area of Science. Modules include Laboratory Skills, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Food Chemistry / Nutrition, Communications and Work Experience. The element of work experience affords learners with the prospect of establishing links with local industries to gain invaluable experience.

Kinsale Community School is ideally situated in close proximity to a variety of multi-national pharmaceutical and food industries. Job opportunities are available in hospital, chemical, pharmaceutical, food science and industrial laboratories and sectors including local authorities and quality control. Our new school building which is officially opening in September 2017 will be equipped with state of the art Science Laboratories and facilities.
